Manners And Etiquettes of Reading The Holy Quran

The Holy Quran is the holiest and most sacred book in the world among the scriptures. This heavenly Manuscript was revealed upon the final Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in parts over 23 years. You should only recite the Quran for the Lord’s reward and pleasure; do not do it for attention or material gain.

Observe Cleanliness and Wudu

One must maintain the condition of complete purity, both physical and mental, which is the prerequisite of every religious act. Cleaning up and performing Wudu are requirements before Quran reading.

Before reciting the Quran, perform ablution and have clean clothes and a clean body, as Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) refers to cleanliness as “Half of Faith.”

Place the Qur’an Above/ on a Pillow

It goes without saying that the Holy Book of Allah is very revered. Therefore, it is not advised to read it in your lap. And it should never be placed on the ground, as it is disrespectful, hence a sin.

The Quran should be placed on a tidy cushion. Another wonderful option to place it is a dedicated Quran-reading table.

Face the Qiblah Position

It is recommended to face the Qiblah (towards the direction of the Holy Kaaba) when reciting because that is the ideal setting. It falls within the manners of reading the Holy Quran, even if it is not required.

Leaning back or aside while reading the Quran is considered a disgraceful act towards the holy book. Therefore, Quran readers and reciters must sit straight and calm while reading the Quran Majeed.

Hold in the Right Hand

Always keep in mind that the book you are reading is not a typical book. The book of the Lord is the best in both heaven and earth.

As part of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Sunnah, you should hold the Holy Quran in your right hand with the highest love and reverence.

Before Reciting, read “Tauz” and “Tasmia”

It takes a lot of attention to recite the Holy Quran. The best method is to recite “Tauz” and “Tasmia,” two duas, before you recite, because Satan always tries to divert the reciter.

The Tauz is “Audhu Billahi mina-Shaitan-nir-Rajeem.” (I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the Accursed.)

The Tasmia is “Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim.” (In the name of God, most Gracious, most Compassionate.)

If you are reciting a Surah from the middle, start with “Tauz” only, and if you are reciting it from the beginning, recite both “Tauz” and “Tasmia.”

Recite in a Beautiful Tone

You should never forget that the Noble Qur’an is words of Allah while you recite it. You should read the Quran in a beautiful tone and a loud voice.

Be careful not to overdo it; you should not beautify your voice when reciting the Quran to the point of breaking Tajweed rules.

Similarly, you shouldn’t read the Quran in one go. Read the Quran word by word and slowly to help you understand and feel connected to what is being spoken.

Keep Tajweed Rules in Mind

As part of the Dar Al Ber Society’s innovative scheme with the Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Centre for Quran Service, a number of girls between the ages of eight and sixty enrolled in a Quran learning course. Surah Kausar Or Al-Kauser – Transliteration and English Translation

Surah Kausar is the 108th Chapter/ Surah in the noble Qur’an and has just three verses, making it the shortest chapter of the Quran Kareem. “Kausar” means “abundance, bountiful, plentiful or a river or lake in paradise.” This Surah was revealed before the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) migration to Medina when the Prophet (PBUH ) was facing oppression and hardships from the Quraish and the inhabitants of Makkah, particularly from non-believers in the early stages of the prophethood while preaching Islam.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and a small group of His companions could not see a significant change or success because the entire nation had turned against him with extreme resistance and hostility from all sides. Before the revelation of Surah Al-Kausar, Allah had sent down various verses to console and uplift him at the death of His son.
In Surah Ad- Duha, it was said: “And surely the later period (i.e. every later period) is better for you than the former period, and soon your Lord shall give you so much that you shall be well pleased.”
Such were the conditions in which Allah by sending down Surah Al-Kauthar consoled the Holy Prophet as well as foretold the destruction of his opponents.

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

1. Innaa a’taina kal kauthar
2. Fa salli li rabbika wanhar
3. Inna shani-aka huwal abtar

English Translation of Surah Al-Kauser

To thee have We granted the Fount (of Abundance).
Therefore to thy Lord turn in Prayer and Sacrifice.
For he who hateth thee, he will be cut off (from Future Hope).

Tafseer Surah Al-Kauthar In English

1. Indeed! We have given you Abundance;

The term “Kawthar” is a descriptive case derived from the word “kathrat” which can be implied to mean ‘abundance’; that is, an abundance of goodness, of spiritual benefits and blessings. Such abundance is unbounded and limitless. In this verse, Allah gave the glad tidings of such abundance of goodness to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Narrated Hz Ibn Abbas (RA): [1]

“The word ‘al-Kawthar’ means the abundant good which Allah gave to him, that is, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).”

The purpose of this verse was to strengthen the Prophet’s (PBUH) determination and also to boost the resolve of the Muslim community by reminding them of their Lord’s Promise. To quote Surah ad-Duhaa: [2]

“And verily your Lord will give you so that you will be content.”

2. So pray to your Lord, and sacrifice (to Him Alone).

Allah is the Only One who can grant such abundance, so thanks should be offered only to Him. This ayah reminds us that we should remain steadfast: our prayers are only for Allah and our sacrifices too are for Him Alone, contrary to the polytheistic practices wherein one worships self-made gods.

In Surah al-Anam, Allah says: [3]

Say: “Truly, my prayer and my sacrifice, my life, and my death, are (all) for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.”

3. Surely your enemy is the one who shall be without posterity.

The last verse of this short Surah bears references to the taunts made by the chiefs of the pagans, who used to say that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is ‘abtar’, that is ‘without posterity’ (one who does not have a male offspring). They used to claim that due to the death of all of his sons, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will not be remembered by future generations.

Obviously, such taunts and remarks showed nothing but the ignorance of the pagan chiefs. Allah ensured that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is not just remembered, but has served as a role model for generations after generations.

Nor shall they compass Aught of his knowledge Except as He willeth. His throne doth extend Over the heavens And on earth, and He feeleth No fatigue in guarding And preserving them, For He is the Most High. The Supreme (in glory).”

Importance And Benefits Of Reciting Ayatul Kursi

Ayat al-Kursi is the 255th verse of Surah al-Baqarah (the longest surah in the Quran). This verse is regarded as the best verse of the holy Quran, and a hadith also supports that view. The Prophet (PBUH) questioned Abu Mundhir, one of his companions, regarding the greatest verse in the Quran. Ayat al-Kursi began to be recited by the companion. Muhammad (PBUH) gave a positive response. This Hadith is one of the reliable narrations in Sahih Muslim.

This verse is among the best verses of the holy Quan, as it describes the ultimate superiority of the Almighty Allah. It shows us how we cannot compare anything or anyone with Him. He created all things that exist apart from Him. Ayat al-Kursi is one of the most famous verses in the holy Quran. Because of its easiness, significance, and advantages, it is typically one of the first verses kids and beginners learn and memorize when they start reading and reciting the Quran Majeed.

Some of these Hadiths show the importance of Ayat at-Kursi:

The Prophet (PBUH) stated that if a person recited Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory salah, he would go to Paradise immediately if he died.
In another Hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) stated that if a person recites Ayat al-Kursi after salah, Allah protects him until the next salah.
Abu Huraira stated in a Hadith that Ayat al-Kursi is the crest and the apex of the Quran.

Muslims frequently recite the Ayat al-Kursi because it is a powerful verse, especially before retiring to bed or embarking on a journey. They do it to get Allah’s protection and to protect themselves from evil. It is also used as a form of exorcism.

Importance of Ayat al Kursi

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi at the end of every obligatory prayer, nothing but death will prevent him from entering Paradise.”

Benefits of Ayatul Kursi

Some benefits of Ayatul Kursi are listed below.

Reciting Ayatul Kurs protects a person from the devil.
A person reciting Ayatul Kursi in the morning will get protection until the night while doing so at night will save that person until the morning.
Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi at the end of every obligatory prayer, nothing but death will prevent him from entering Paradise (An-Nasa’i reported it, and Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih).
Satan (Shaitaan) leaves home where Ayatul Kursi is recited.
If a person recites it once when going out of the home, Almighty Allah has a group of Angels to come and protect him/her. If recited twice, two groups of Angels are assigned to do this. If recited thrice, Allah tells the Angels not to worry as the Almighty himself takes care of the person.
Your children will be protected by reciting Ayat ul-Kursi.
You can prevent burglars from stealing your house by reciting this verse.
Frequent recitation of Ayatul Kursi will ease the death.
Reciting Ayatul Kursi and the Qul Suras protects a person against the evil eye.

Arabic Basic Verbs – Transliteration With English Translation

No matter how many nouns you are already familiar with, Arabic sentences also require Arabic basic verbs. Even if you know how to say “school” in Arabic, what good is it if you can’t ask, “Where is the school?” Alternatively, you can pronounce Tuesday in Arabic, yet you cannot invite your buddies on a Tuesday. Fortunately, because Arabic verbs are based on a group of two, three, four, and occasionally even five (though mainly three) consonants termed as root, they adhere to the same rules as the rest of the languages’ vocabulary.

Any alterations to the vowels between the consonants and any prefixes or suffixes connected describe grammatical functions such as a person, gender, number, tense, mood, and voice. This root conveys the basic meaning of the verb.

But there is something different. You would say “I Henry” rather than “I am Henry” because there is no verb “to be” (am, is, are, etc.) in the Arabic present tense. That means there is one fewer verb to learn, at least. We hope you will soon be able to construct some sentences using this collection of these basic Arabic verbs.

The Arabic name of the Qur’an means “reading” and “recitation.”

Since the Quran is recited aloud and melodiously, its power contains in oral recitation. To help readers memorize the holy Quran, the verses were recorded on paper and compiled into a book.

Unlike the book of Genesis, the Quran does not narrate the story of creation sequentially. The central theme of the Quran is that Allah Almighty is the one and only Lord, and Muhammad is His messenger.

The Quran does not emphasize genealogy, chronology, or historical events, unlike the Bible. Instead, it uses these events to convey the message of the oneness with Allah.

The Qur’an was revealed in segments over 23 years. In fact, a lot of verses/ passages were in response to specific occasions. These were frequently revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by the Angel Gabriel in response to skeptics/non-believers of this message. When the Prophet encountered disbelief by non-believers, he was given instructions on what to do.

Basics of the Holy Quran

Firstly, a beginner should understand the noble Quran and its form. The literal meaning of the Arabic term Quran is “recitation” and “reading.” Similarly, the Al-Qur’an was recited verbally and recorded in book form. Although the noble Quran is meant to be read aloud and melodiously, the verses were written down on various materials to help its memorization and preservation.

These were collected and organized in book privately and, at a later stage, institutionally. However, the true power of the Quran still lies in oral recitation. The Quran should not be interpreted as a sequential narrative like the book of Genesis because it was not intended to tell a chronological story.

The Al Qur’an frequently refers to certain chapters and themes while changing the subject matter. And it tells stories in summarized form. Two explanations are clear from this. It first has linguistic significance and serves as one of the most powerful rhetorical strategies of traditional Arabic. Second, despite its wide range of topics, the Quran’s themes are all centered on the idea that there is only one God—Allah—and Muhammad (PBUH) is His messenger.

It’s also important to remember that the Quran was not entirely revealed in one session but in parts over a period of 23 years. Many of the verses addressed particular incidents. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) frequently received Quranic revelation from the Angel Gabriel in response to queries raised by non-believers.

The Quran addresses these non-believers, the People of the Scripture (a term the Quran uses to refer to Jews and Christians), humanity in general, believers, and, finally, the Prophet himself – telling him what to do in a particular circumstance or consoling him in the face of mockery and rejection. Understanding the historical and social context of revelation makes the meaning contained in the text itself more evident.

Reward for Reading the Whole Quran

One of the traits of a practicing Muslim is reading the Qur’an. No doubt, there are numerous rewards for reading the whole Quran. Whoever recites the Quran, Allah Almighty bestows His mercy upon him. In Surat Al-Mazamil, Allah commands His Prophet to read the holy Quran:

“And recite the Quran ˹properly˺ in a measured way.”

Uthman (R.A.) said that the Prophet (PBUH) said,

“The best of you are the ones who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others.” (Al-Bukhari)

So, every person should increase Quran Recitation as much as possible to gain these merits and other benefits.

Dr. Mohammad Qatanani, Professor at the Islamic American University and Imam of the Islamic Centre of Passaic County in New Jersey, stated while responding to a question that Reciting the Qur’an is the best act of worship after the obligations. Indeed, according to your relationship with it, the Qur’an will be a witness either for or against you.

There are a lot of Quranic verses and Hadiths that show the benefits and rewards of reading the whole Quran. Here we’ll discuss some of the benefits:

Forgiveness and Mercy From the Almighty Allah

Allah blesses His endless mercies and forgives those who recite the Quran Kareem. Allah praises those who read and recite the holy Quran saying:

“Surely those who recite the Book of Allah, establish prayer, and donate from what We have provided for them—secretly and openly—˹can˺ hope for an exchange that will never fail,* so that He will reward them in full and increase them out of His grace. He is truly All-Forgiving, Most Appreciative. He actually is Most Forgiving and All-Forgiving.”

The verse is concluded with Allah’s name, “Al-Ghafoor.” That proves that those who read the Quran will experience Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.

Multiplying the Reward

A Muslim will be rewarded for every letter he/she reads. Allah Almighty will multiply the reward of those who recite the Quran Majeed:

On the authority of Abdullah bin Masoud (R.A.), the Prophet – PBUH – said: “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah has a reward, and every reward would be multiplied ten times. I do not say Alif Laam Meem is a letter, But Alif is a letter and Laam is a letter” Narrated by Al-Albani, in Sahih Al-Tirmidhi.

Getting the Highest Rank of Paradise

One of the rewards of reading the whole Quran Kareem is it ranks a person in Paradise. The person’s rank would be at the last verse he/she reaches.

On the authority of Abdullah bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with them both, he said: The Messenger of Allah – PBUH – said, “The one who was devoted to the Quran will be told to recite, ascend and recite carefully as he recited carefully when he was in the world, for he will reach his abode when he comes to the last verse he recites.” Narrated by Al-Albani, in Sahih Abi Dawood.

Intercession on the Day of Resurrection

One of the benefits of reading the noble Quran is its intercession on the Day of Resurrection. It has been proven that reading the Noble Quran is a reason for obtaining intercession on the Day of Resurrection.

On the authority of Abu Umamah Al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, saying “Read the Quran, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.” (Muslim)

Obtaining the Rank of the Honorable Angles

By reading the holy Quran regularly, a person can achieve the rank of honorable and righteous Angles:

In another hadith, `Aaishah (R.A.) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said, “Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he/she will be rewarded twice.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Blessing in this Life and the Hereafter

One of the greatest benefits of reciting the holy Quran is to get the blessings in this life and the Hereafter:

On the authority of Abu Dharr – may Allah be pleased with him – he said: “I said: O Messenger of Allah, advise me. He said: “You have to fear Allah that is most important.” I said: O Messenger of Allah, advise me more. He said: “You should read the Quran, for it is a light for you on earth and a so much reward for you in the sky.”-Narrated by Ibn Hibban, and classed as Hasan by Al-Albani-

Youngest Quran Hafiz Fascinates Nigerians

One of the world’s youngest Muslims to memorize the Qur’an by heart is a three-year-old girl who is making headlines in Nigeria. She is the Youngest Quran Hafiz.

The girl’s mother, Sayyada Maimunatu Sheikh Dahiru, expressed her gratitude to Allah in an interview with the Sunday Tribune on February 10.

“This is indeed a blessing from Allah. I’m grateful to Allah for this.”

Rukkayatu Fatahu Umar, her daughter, memorized the Noble Qur’an when she was three years and eight months old.

The young Muslim girl first started memorizing the noble book in an Islamic school opened by a famous Sheikh named Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

According to Maimunatu, a teacher at the institution, “We were using a big parlor, which was divided into classes for the learning of the Qur’an.”

“At that time, I always carried her on my back while teaching. From there, she started reciting along with the students; she had memorized some verses before long.

“That was how she started attending memorization class. Right now, she has completed memorizing the whole Qur’an,” the proud mother said.

The holy Quran consists of 114 chapters (Surah) of varying lengths.

The young girl spent every day between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. at school, which left her little time to play with her classmates.

It is not as if she does not play with her classmates. She does, especially with those memorizing the Qur’an like her,” Maimunatu said.

“This makes it easier for them, as their focus and attention are directed towards achieving the same goal, which is memorizing the Qur’an.”

Education

The Muslim girl does not think she has memorized the Qur’an at this young age.

“I thank Allah,” she said.

The little Muslim girl is getting ready to start school shortly, defying the family’s custom of sending girls to school when they turn ten.

The mother, who herself memorized the entirety of the Qur’an at the age of 12, remarked, “My husband, however, has said that the world is changing now and that there is civilization all over the place.”

As such, our daughter will have the opportunity of going to a proper school whenever she reaches the age of six.”

The Muslim mother thanked her father for offering her daughter the opportunity to learn the Qur’an at this young age.

“I’m also grateful that I have a father like Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who planted my feet, like other people, on the path of Islam,” she said.

“May Allah grant him longevity of life so that he will continue to serve Allah and be useful to Islam and humanity in general.”
